The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) delivers the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to deliver monetary help to individuals and households experiencing hardship.
The grant targets South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers, and special permit holders between the ages of eighteen and sixty.
The SRD grant is there to assist those who have insufficient money, don't receive other social grants or unemployment insurance and lack financial support from elsewhere.
Up till April 2024, the Sassa SRD grant value stood at R350 every month. It was then introduced which the SRD grant can be increased to R370 starting from April 2024.
There are two key methods to make an application for the Sassa SRD grant: Online using the Sassa SRD Web page and on WhatsApp.
